UALR OpNote 014

12 Sept 2010

Promotions – Please join me in congratulating Andrew on passing his Captain’s qualification.

Fall Operations – Back to school and back to work season is now here.  Everyone is settling into their fall schedules, and the darker and colder it gets outside the more flying will be going on at BVA. UALR is now in position to rage into the fall and winter right along with it.  You’ll see.  Be ready.  Polish your wings… you’ll need em.

Logan Informer Article – The new Logan Informer being released this week will include an article announcing that UALR will be primarily managed by the direction of its Captains – which currently is Branden, Connor, and Andrew.  There are also two other Captain candidates in the pipeline who will likely pass CaptQual soon and also step into admin roles.  Communications regarding operations in the future will be coming to you via Skype from UALR’s Captains.  Wanna have a hand in the management and future direction of the company?  Go pass your CaptQual and get involved.  Contact your group leader for more details.

Online Dispatch – Don’t forget, dispatch tickets are now online.  You can check dispatch by following the links on the Resource Center of the United Regional page on BVA.  Dispatch will be available at the latest by 7pm EST on Thursday nights.  Dispatch will typically be available earlier in the day and an announcement will be posted on Skype each Thursday when dispatch is ready for the evening’s event.

RouteFinder – Routefinder is online as well and will be updated on a regular basis.  You can find the UALR RouteFinder also on the Resource Center on the United Regional webpage. Take a look right now.  Go ahead, I’ll wait.  RouteFinder is all the rage.  All the kids are gaga about it.

Flexible Dispatch Time – With everyone’s personal schedules changing during the back to school season it may be difficult for pilots to launch during the usual 8:30-9PM EST window.  With that in mind, departure times will be considered flexible.  Please strive to depart during the 8:30-9pm window.  However if you cannot, then just depart when you can.  Thursday night will continue to be the usual United Regional group event, and everyone is encouraged to fly.  As the airline builds its likely that even though departures are not as focused as they have been in the past, the traffic caused by new pilots will still create controller overload from time to time.  More important though is to fly.  Fill the sky with United jets on Thursdays.  Your mom will be there too.  We’re giving her a ride.  She’ll be in the station wagon.

Filling the Skies – UALR will continue to recruit and train newbies via the STC program, and this will continue to be the primary method of adding new pilots.  In addition I am working on building an international contingent of pilots from Europe and the UK.  These folks would be flying during what is their night time, and our afternoon due to a 6 hour time difference – but again focused on Thursdays.  With luck, and in time, there will be United RJ’s in the sky all Thursday afternoon and all Thursday night.  International is definitely the rage.  Just ask Gilles.  He’ll tell you.

SOP Updates – During the UALR reorg, the SOP has undergone some minor modifications.  A copy of the updated version will be sent to you shortly.  The most important change relates to training and promotions.  Going forward, a Flight Officer must earn a ruby training pip before a promotion to Captain will go through, and a Captain must earn a diamond training pip before a promotion to Senior Captain will go through.  This is to ensure the perpetuity of UALR.  The Airline is dependent on a constant influx of new pilots in order to thrive and grow.  It’s not uncommon for pilots to move on from the airline to other interests, and therefore in order to maintain operations new pilots must be trained and promoted.  This new promotion requirement will ensure that the airline is constantly self replicating.   It is non negotiable, it’s also all the rage, and all the kids have flipped over it.

Dual Center – Dual center is really the biggest rage of all.  ZNY has been opened in large part due to the efforts of UALR.  You asked for it, you’ve earned it, so go fly it.  UALR Captains are cleared to fly the mid rangers on trans center route (KPHL – KBOS is a good run), and FO’s should always seek to overload controllers throughout the Eastern Empire with your insidious RJ attacks on their airspace.  RouteFinder reflects all the new ZNY – ZBW routes.  So go show everyone what you can do with it and generate some traffic already so that NY center feels like being open more often.  The UAL Terminal is Bravo at JFK.  Over by the Victor intersection towards the end of 13L.  Right?  Yep.

New Aircraft – Captains are authorized to operate medium range aircraft such as the MD80 or the 737 and its brothers and sisters on trans ZNY / ZBW routes.  And if you’re looking for a challenge I dare you to earn your Captains wings and fly the “Mad Dog” MD Super 80.

No, I double dare ya.
