UALR OpNote 001

Welcome to United Regional OpNotes.  OpNotes are operational updates for UALR pilots issued on as-needed basis. Future OpNotes will be sequentially numbered for your convenience.   Please consider printing them and adding them to your binder in sequence in order to be sure you have all the latest updates.

1. Regional results - Thank you to all who participated in the regional on May 13. We definitely succeeded in our goal of overloading the approach controller at KBDL as evidenced by the fact that many aircraft where vectored away on 20 mile finals, and that the controller more than once forgot to hand the aircraft off to tower on final. There were also at least 2 missed approaches due to poor setup of the aircraft onto the approach
path from the controller. Next week we hope to involve our sister airline Cape Air in our evil plans. Each event just keeps getting better. Thanks again to all who participated!

2. Gates – Please attempt to depart from and arrive at the correct United Terminal. The United terminal is Charlie at KBOS, and Alpha at KBDL. You can find the correct terminal on this website - http://www.airportterminalmaps.com/. UALR Ops will attempt to identify the correct gate on all future dispatch tickets. Please try to use the correct terminal not only for realism purposes, but also so that group photos are tight and organized. Also – please strive to park on the lines in a proper parking slot otherwise not
all aircraft will have room to park!!

3. COCOM – company com 122.90 was somewhat successful. It appears that COCOM will be difficult to use while in flight as it distracts from other com messages from center. It was however highly useful in positioning jets for the group photo at KBDL. With that in mind we will continue to monitor COCOM wherever possible but it’s likely that it will be used mostly on the ground. Please also begin a new procedure when using COCOM. When transmitting on COCOM, please identify that you are ON COCOM. This will help other aircraft to know where the message is coming from – whether it is coming over COCOM or from some other frequency. The initial message should be something like this…

“United 35 this is United 74 calling on COCOM.. do you copy?

Please remember to keep COCOM all business, and to use proper radio terminology and handling.

4. Photos: All aircraft are encouraged to take photos during group and regional flights. Photos will be used for marketing purposes to expand the goals of the airline. You can take a screenshot at anytime by pressing the letter "V" on your keyboard.  This will save the screenshot to your "my photos/FSX" folder.  Please submit any worthy photos to operations via Skype for use in UALR marketing and recruiting efforts.

5. FO Conference - A flight officers conference is being planned for Sunday May 23rd at 7PM EST. All available flight officers should report to Kansas City airfield in the ERJaircraft for micro detailed training on the Embraer jets. More info to follow. This is a FOonly conference… so schedule your FO checkrides asap!

6. Contributions – if you have an issue or item that you would like to see in future OpNotes memos, please let us know via skype.

Stay sharp.
